Charlene is in the business of people development. She is a great listener and advisor who uses her God-given words to inspire, motivate and activate one's inner strength to pursue greatness. She worked with corporate institutions, non-profits, religious organizations, and individuals to help them flourish. She has worked in many positions as a registered nurse, nursing clinical coordinator, production development & reservation manager, president of an international collegiate service organization, children's ministry director, youth advocate, advisor, transformational speaker, life coach, and suicide prevention program coordinator. From her life experiences, training, and encounter with others, Charlene's goal was always to understand how people think, why they do what they do, and help them grow for the better. Therefore, she has integrated her understanding of people, passion for serving, and love for God to be able to create tools and resources to help individuals and organizations flourish and maximize their true potential.
Caring, compassionate, purpose-driven, growth-oriented, and motivating are descriptive words that others use to define Charlene Vassell-Wright. Charlene loves God, life, and people, and these three elements are the things that have shaped her into the individual she is today and the reason she does what she does. Charlene believes in both empiricism and that we are all born with a purpose, and the ultimate goal of life is to fulfill our purpose and accomplish our goals. Some people may find happiness, pleasure, and gratification in the journey to fulfillment, while others need to reach their ultimate destination. Either way will bring forth the whole meaning to one's life. She believes everyone's philosophy differs and is justified or impacted by their culture, beliefs, race, and gender. Therefore, she understands that everyone's definition of success will be different. To Charlene, success is being in a state of contentment and fulfillment. While on her path to achieving success academically, professionally, personally, and spiritually, her heart's desire and intent is to take others along her journey to help them succeed.
Charlene has a calling to love, heal, nurture, lead and encourage. She has a heart for leadership and compassion. Growing up as a child, Charlene would always be the first on the scene of the fall of one of her classmates. She gave her time and attention to those hurting and needed a listening ear. She never liked the "act of bullying"; hence she is always in defense of those characterized as the "weaklings." She is known as "The Voice of change."
Despite living in an environment filled with obstacles, challenges, and distractions, Charlene was able to stay focused and committed to her purpose and passion, hence a 17-year career in the profession of nursing. The act of caring for others, Nursing is dear to Charlene's heart; it is her ministry. When asked why do you love nursing? Charlene's response at all times is, "Nursing is my passion. It is my calling! It is not just a job to me; it's an expression of my love and commitment to humanity. I can express my purpose in and through my work by educating, inspiring, connecting, and supporting those that are sick, hurting, or vulnerable."
Charlene is not only a licensed professional registered nurse but also an entrepreneur, dynamic public speaker, transformational leader, faith-based influencer, and life coach. While completing her Bachelor of Science degree at Walden University, Charlene had an awakening moment that transformed her life and catapulted her to her newfound purpose. While conducting her studies, she wore the hats of a full-time student, full-time employee, nurse leader, newlywed, and mother of a beautiful newborn baby girl. Charlene suffered silently, trying to meet all those demands and battling postpartum depression. She wore the perfect mask to hide her tears and pain. She felt stagnant, broken, lost, and unfulfilled. She felt pressured to meet the unrealistic and untimely goals and standards she had set for herself but failed to accomplish.
Despite all the support, love, and resources for help around her, she didn't seek the appropriate help, as the lies stifled her thoughts, shame, and guilt. "How could you, a woman of your caliber and success, have suicidal thoughts?" The old Charlene thought to herself. "What would others think of you if you tried to get help?" For some reading this post, you may see a weak and selfish individual, but in all honesty, this person was in a trapped state of mind. She was an overwhelmed mother, an exhausted nurse working long, grueling hours, dealing with the uncertainty and chaos of the pandemic. An individual trying to complete the next step of her academic career ladder, a woman meeting the needs of her family, a woman with unrealistic expectations and no defined boundaries. However, with her continuous desire for change, she tirelessly sought the Lord and changed her thought process, attitude, and perceptions. With an active role in her healing process, she was able to tap into her hidden strengths. Now she is on fire for greatness.
Embarking upon her alma mater's mission "to provide a diverse community of career professionals with the opportunity to transform themselves as scholar-practitioners so that they can effect positive social change" (Walden University Mission and Vision, 2022), Charlene has been inspired to channel her passion, enthusiasm, and zeal into intense energy and drive by leading with purpose. She has become a social change agent. Moving from front-line care to the broad room, Charlene plans to be the voice that proliferates changes that will impact patient care, her clients, and the wider society.
Charlene is a Certified Transformational Christian Life Coach that helps individuals with self-limiting beliefs, self-doubts, and self-sabotage behaviors to gain clarity and shift in their mindset so they can experience growth and productivity, self-actualization, and effective exponential transformation.
